Andrew Phelan is among the Bay Area’s most talented DJs. You can find him spinning at my party this Saturday, Sept. 4th at Kelly’s Mission Rock in San Francisco.
Andrew Phelan ( pronounced ‘feelin’ ) was raised on Chicago’s underground house scene, influenced early by local jocks such as Derrick Carter, Sneak, Halo and Justin Long. A veteran DJ of over 13 years, Andrew moved to San Francisco in 2001, bringing his smooth, layered mixing style, wide ranging music tastes, and infectious energy behind the decks with him.
In 2005 Andrew launched Prismatic Tracks, a label that has featured some of the premier names in house music, including Luke Solomon, Santiago & Bushido, Scope, Bryan Jones, Christian Malloni, Jake Childs, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Chris Lum and Ross Couch. Locally in San Francisco, the Prismatic brand is renowned for producing events at hot spots such as Mezzanine, Vessel, Mighty, Harlot, DNA Lounge and Supperclub, booking top international talent including Green Velvet, Doc Martin, Hipp-E, Jay Tripwire and Justin Martin.
In the studio, Andrew can most frequently be seen paired up with good friend George Cochrane, aka Origami. Based out of SF’s famed Moulton Studios complex, the duo’s sound is a schizophrenic blend of funk, tech, deep and electro, all tied to a core of live instruments and deceptively catchy vocals. Tapped often for their transformative, scene-stealing remix work, they also play well with others, laying tracks with vocalists Brown and Audio Angel, and moonlighting in maximal-electro foursome The Fingermonsters.
Beyond their extensive body of work on Prismatic Tracks, the duo have releases on some of the most respected labels in house, including Drop Music, Eight-Tracks, So Sound, Amenti, Lost My Dog and Body Rhythm. This work has garnered them praise in DJ Mag, Urb, iDJ and DMC Update, as well as landing them on the charts and playlists of Radio 1, Kiss FM, Mark Farina, Jay-J, Laurent Garnier, Inland Knights, Funk D’Void, Colette, Robert Owens, Roger Sanchez and DJ Heather, to name but a few.
